Video Description (from Youtube)
This book explores the thesis first proposed by Whittaker in 1904 that the Roman-Jewish War of 66 to 70 precipitated the rise of the Christian religion. The evidence for this hypothesis is found in ancient writings, Christian, Jewish and pagan, in numismatics and in astronomy. Christianity is compared with the invention of modern religions such as Mormonism. The fervent expectation of the Messiah to appear to save the Jews from the Romans fed the rumour that the Messiah had appeared but been unrecognised, been killed and gone back to heaven. The failed political coming at that time became the predicted second coming. The first gospel account which is entirely fictional provided the template for the other gospels and was written to explain how the religion arose.
