Dictionary definition of messenger

A prophet who receives a new scripture from God is also called a messenger. Whereas a prophet simply taught teachings already established through a previous scripture.

Therefore the following prophets were also messengers:
  • Abraham, as he received the Scrolls of Abraham
  • Moses and Aaron, as they received the Torah
  • David, as he received the Psalms
  • Jesus, as he received the Gospel
  • Muhammad, as he received the Quran
  • Other prophets,whose books we do not know of may include Jacob, Ishmael, Jonah and others
