What is the purpose of scripture?

Scripture are held as foundation texts by the various religions.

The texts are held as sacred, central to the religion, divinely or supernaturally revealed and God-inspired. Scripture may be used to evoke a deeper connection with the divine, convey spiritual truths, promote mystical experience, foster communal identity, and to guide individual and communal spiritual practice.
