In April 2022, the Medieval Institute held its twentieth annual Mellon Colloquium with its 2021–22 Mellon Fellow, Assistant Professor of History Mohamad Ballan (Stony Brook University), on his book project in progress, "Lord of the Pen and Sword: Genealogy and Sovereignty in the Medieval Islamic West," with responses from three distinguished discussants.

In this video, Antoine Borrut, Associate Professor of History at the University of Maryland, presents his responses to Prof. Ballan's book manuscript.
