Video Description (from Youtube)
People who carry out so-called conversion therapy could face up to five years in prison under a major new government plan. The draft law would create new criminal offences for abusive acts aimed at changing someone’s sexual orientation or transgender identity, along with fresh powers to protect those seen as being at risk. Ministers say current laws do not properly deal with the harm caused by these practices, while campaigners backing a ban say it is long overdue. But critics warn the legislation could still spark a fierce row over whether it risks catching parents, therapists or religious figures having legitimate conversations.
Julia Hartley-Brewer speaks with GenderGP founder, Dr Helen Webberley.
