Every year, over two million Muslims travel to Mecca for Islam's most sacred pilgrimage. But behind the spiritual journey lies a hidden economy worth $12 billion, deadly stampedes Saudi Arabia refuses to acknowledge, and waiting lists stretching over 40 years.

In 2015, more than 2,400 pilgrims were crushed to death in a single afternoon. Saudi Arabia said 769. They never updated the number. In 2024, over 1,300 died from heat exposure—most of them sold fake visas by unlicensed travel agencies.

This video breaks down everything: what Hajj actually costs depending on where you live, why Indonesians wait decades for a slot, how the Saudi quota system works, and why climate change will make the pilgrimage even deadlier.
