THE MYTHVISION PHILOSOPHY
As a former Methodist minister and social psychologist trained in the study of mass-mediated phenomena, Luther G. Williams, PhD. is a classic cross-disciplinarian. Derek Lambert is a graduate of a Bible college and a lifelong student of the religions of western civilizations. They bring their experiences and perspectives to MythVision, where we recognize that knowledge is transformative.
The communication structures of post-literate society have transformed academic specialties from cubbyholes and tombs into observation towers and launch pads. While expertise within disciplines remains valuable, it is no longer possible to defer to or hide behind specialization without drawing the charge of “argumentum ad verecundiam” (an irrational appeal to authority). All around the world eclectic experts are venturing from their academic specialties and joining the grand conversation.
Many of today’s most important discoveries in all fields are being made by cross-disciplinarians and even amateurs. James Valliant and Warren Fahy, authors of “Creating Christ: How Roman Emperors Invented Christianity” are a good example. Although neither of them is credentialed in history or theology, their work has been praised as representative of the highest “scholarship” by no less an eminent academician as Dr. Robert Eisenman. Likewise, no institution has an accredited program in gematria or esoteric studies, yet Dr. Luther G. Williams’ discoveries in those areas over the past quarter century have been hailed by prominent authors and researchers as significant and groundbreaking. How is this possible in a world of segregated academic disciplines? It is because in the Information Age, a large amount of various data is not segregated, but widely accessible to all. To make credentials within a particular discipline an absolute requirement runs counter to modern epistemology.
In sum, MythVision believes that cross-disciplinary approaches provide fertile ground for the insights most vital and crucial to societies and cultures. The future belongs to scholars, amateurs, and members of the public who freely share information and follow evidence wherever it leads.
